  1. Caring for the Tiniest Lives:Why Baby Care Matters
The first few days after birth are the most delicate for every newborn. Proper care during this period isn’t just about love and comfort — it can save lives. The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 2.3 million babies died in the first 28 days of life in 2022, which means nearly 6,500 newborns die every day, making up 47% of all child deaths under the age of five. Most of these deaths occur due to poor quality care at birth, lack of medical attention, or simple unawareness of basic newborn needs.
To ensure a healthy start, WHO suggests simple yet life-saving steps: wipe the baby dry and delay the first bath for 24 hours, keep them warm with extra layers and a hat, test early for jaundice, hearing, and vision issues, keep the umbilical cord clean and dry, allow frequent breastfeeding, maintain skin-to-skin contact, and always wash hands before handling the baby. Most importantly, know the warning signs — poor feeding, fast breathing, or fever — and seek medical help immediately.
Every heartbeat matters. With care, warmth, and awareness, we can protect millions of newborns.
What small act of care will you take to save a tiny life today?
